Brought back from the East by the Crusaders in the 13th century, it was cultivated in Provins, in the Île-de-France region, where it became the symbol of the town. Prized for its sweet fragrance and petals rich in active ingredients, it has been used since the Middle Ages for its soothing, astringent and toning properties.
